Marble and granite floor cleaning tipsMarble and granite are known as two of the most durable materials and it is not a coincidence that their properties have been known to people for centuries. Today, marble and granite are a top choice when it comes to flooring as their maintenance is relatively easy and inexpensive provided you are aware of the right cleaning technique. If you are about to install marble or granite flooring at your home or your commercial building, the first thing you have to remember is that you cannot just grab a random cleaning agent and start scrubbing. Below you will find the proper approach towards keeping the good condition of your floors.

  • Before you install the new flooring, don’t hesitate to ask a flooring specialist about the best technique to prevent dirt and dust build-up. He will most probably recommend placing a mat at the high traffic areas in order to prevent scratches and grime accumulation.

  • There is a great difference between commercial flooring and the flooring at your home but what they have in common is that you definitely have to use cleaning agents designed especially for marble and granite surfaces. Avoid any cleaning solutions that contain acid and always dry the surface by using a soft cloth.

  • Be very careful when you use the vacuum cleaner as the wheels and hoses can cause scratches.

  • If you don’t have a special cleaning product, the best thing you can do is to dissolve a few drops of mild dishwashing liquid in a bucket of lukewarm water and mop the floor. Don’t forget to empty the bucket and fill it with plain water (without dishwashing liquid) and mop the floor once again to remove the soap residue.

  • If you have to deal with a stain, use cold water and a pH-neutral cleaning product. Gently rub the affected area with a microfiber cloth.

Marble and granite floors are beautiful and they can serve you for many years provided that you take good care of them. Follow the aforementioned tips and ensure their excellent condition.
